Resumen

Teodora Raulena representa el ejemplo de mujer aristócrata bizantina, perteneciente a la familia imperial de Nicea, con una destacada formación intelectual. Participó en las luchas políticas y en las controversias religiosas de su tiempo, sufriendo la intolerancia y el exilio de la corte. Viuda tras dos matrimonios, encontró en su condición monástica, una oportunidad para desarrollar libremente su interés por la cultura, rodeándose de destacados miembros de la intelectualidad bizantina de su tiempo y manteniendo con ellos una estrecha relación epistolar.

Theodora Raoulaina represents the example of a Byzantine aristocratic woman, belonging to the imperial family of Nicaea, with an outstanding intellectual training. She participated in the political struggles and religious controversies of her time, suffering intolerance and exile from the court. Widowed after two marriages, she found in her monastic condition an opportunity to freely develop her interest in culture, surrounding herself with prominent members of the Byzantine intelligentsia of her time and maintaining a close epistolary relationship with them.
