War is Circe. Asia Minor Catastrophe in The Dead Await of Dido Sotiriou
Resumen
En 1959 Didó Sotiríu hizo su aparición en el panorama literario griego con la novela de carácter testimonial y autobiográfico Οι νεκροί περιμένουν [Los muertos esperan]. En ella la autora ficcionaliza su infancia en Asia Menor y su posterior experiencia como refugiada en Atenas. La obra supone una «primera mirada» al tema de la Catástrofe y es de algún modo una preparación para Ματωμένα Χώματα [Tierras de Sangre] (1962). En este trabajo se presenta un análisis de la novela y de su contexto de publicación y se exploran algunos de los paralelismos que guarda con Tierras de Sangre y con el ensayo teórico Η Μικρασιατική καταστροφή και η στρατηγική του ιμπεριαλισμού στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο [La catástrofe de Asia Menor y la estrategia del imperialismo en el Mediterráneo Oriental] que Satirio publicó en 1975, haciendo especial hincapié en su mirada sobre la guerra y sus consecuencias.

In 1959 Dido Sotiriou made her appearance on the Greek literary scene with the testimonial and autobiographical novel Οι νεκροί περιμένουν [The Dead Await]. In this book the author fictionalises her childhood in Asia Minor and her later experience as a refugee in Athens. The work represents a «first look» at the theme of Asia Minor Catastrophe and represents in some way a preparation for Ματωμένα Χώματα [Farewell Anatolia] (1962). This paper provides an analysis of the novel and the context of its publication and explores certain parallelisms with Farewell Anatolia and with the theoretical essay Η Μικρασιατική καταστροφή και η στρατηγική του ιμπεριαλισμού στην Ανατολική Μεσόγειο [The Asia Minor Catastrophe and the Strategy of Imperialism in the Eastern Mediterranean] which Sotiriou published in 1975, with special emphasis on her view of the war and its consequences.
