Resumen
El presente artículo expone y analiza la presencia de algunas similitudes notables entre las trayectorias de Rafael Canogar y de Yannis Gaitis entre comienzos de la década de 1950 y principios de los años ochenta. La aventura de la abstracción, la vuelta a la figuración y la reflexión sobre la propia sociedad contemporánea caracterizaron la pintura de ambos en un mismo arco temporal y en sintonía e interacción con los desarrollos del arte occidental del momento. Se trata de dos artistas diferentes en cuanto a su formación y reconocimiento pero con sorprendentes coincidencias en varios de sus planteamientos cuyo estudio puede contribuir a un mejor entendimiento del arte contemporáneo en su dimensión internacional.
This article exposes and analyzes the presence of some notable similarities between thecareers of Rafael Canogar and Yannis Gaitis between the early 1950s and the early 1980s. The adventure of abstraction, the return to figuration and the reflection on contemporary society characterized the painting of both in the same time frame while interacting with the developments of Western Art. They are two different artists in terms of their formation and recognition, but with surprising coincidences in several of their approaches which study may help to better understand contemporary art in its international dimension.
