Dominicos Theotokopoulos’ Greek Companion in Toledo

Resumen

In 1910 and 1927, Francisco de San Román, a Spanish researcher of the Toledan archives, recorded a short list of the Greeks, who, between 1600 and 1608, had created some kind of connection with Dominicos Theotokopoulos, at that time resident of the imperial city. The autor of this study, on the basis of information derived from Spanish documents, (i) rectifies the correct form of almost all the names and origin of those persons, (ii) presents and analyses the conditions which obliged them to leave their own countries and take refuge in Spain, and (iii) reconsiders the importance of the relations between them with the eminent Greek painter of Toledo. In an appentix some of the documents used in this study are published in extenso.

En 1910 y 1927, TFrancisco de San Román, el investigador incasable de los archivos locales de Toledo, registró una breve lista de los griegos, que, entre 1600 y 1608, habían sido relacionados, bajo condiciones variadas, con Domínicos Theotokópoulos, en estos años residente en la ciudad imperial. En base de documentación de archivos españoles, el autor: (i) rectifica la forma correcta de casi todos los nombres y apellidos, y el origen de dichas personas, (ii) representa y analiza las condiciones que les obligaron a abandonar sus países y refugiarse en España, y (iii) vuelve a considerar la importancia de sus relaciones con el eminente pintor griego. En appentice se publican en extenso algunos de los documentos utilizados en este estudio.
